Tjoe Bou San is a Chinese nationalist figure in the Dutch East Indies who was born in Batavia in 1891 and died in Batavia on 3 November 1925. While serving as leader and director of Sin Po, he developed the concept of Chinese nationalism in the Dutch East Indies and led a campaign to eradicate Dutch colonialism when World War I. This study aims to determine the background of the life of Tjoe Bou San and the scope of his role in the development of Sin Po. This research is a historical research because the problems expressed are more focused on the past events of the life of a leader of Chinese nationalism named Tjoe Bou San who emphasizes more on his struggle through the Sin Po newspaper. Based on the study conducted, it can be seen that Tjoe Bou San felt that Chinese citizens in the Dutch East Indies (both crossbreed and full-blooded) should consider themselves Chinese. His view was contrary to P.H. Fromberg Sr, Yap Hong Tjoen, and Hauw Tek Kong. Apart from being known as a journalist and leader of the Chinese nationalism movement, he is also a novelist. One of his best novels is The Loan Eng, published in 1922.
