Many historians have done research on the Geger Sepehi incident, both in a series of sociopolitical events in the early 19th century in the Sultanate of Yogyakarta and in about it as one of the beginnings of the Java War. Two aspects are the focus of the study in this article, the first is about the position and role of Tan Jin Sing, and the second is looking at it from the literacy and Javanese perspective of Chinese through three chronicles, each of which represents a socio-political entity involved in the struggle around the Geger Sepehi incident. This event cannot be separated from the political struggles that occurred during Daendel’s government which then continued when Raffles replaced the colonial regime in Indonesia. Tan Jin Sing’s skills and abilities brought him into association with important figures from the British colonial government and in the Sultanate of Yogyakarta. This has made him one of the key figures in the political dynamics that occurred around the Geger Sepehi incident. His position and role as a mediator and facilitator between the British colonial government and the Yogyakarta Sultanate, on the one hand, helped find solutions to various problems, but on the other hand, it accelerated the climax of the political struggle in the Geger Sepehi incident.
